111. Kalyug Mein ‘Keertan’ Pardhana – 1

Why ‘Keertan – Singing Glorious Praises of Lord’ is sublime and exalted in ‘Kalyug – The Black Age’? Dhan Shri Guru Amar Das Ji, Third Sikh Guru, uttered following words, asking every Sikh of ‘His’ to sing ‘True Words’ of ‘True Guru’:

ਆਵਹੁ ਸਿਖ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਕੇ ਪਿਆਰਿਹੋ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥*
(Come, O beloved Sikhs of the True Guru, and sing the True Word of His Bani.)

The question is why ‘Paatshahi 3’ is asking ‘His Sikh – The Beloved of Satguru’ to sing ‘Gurbani’? ‘Gurbani’ has explained it very well that by singing ‘Keertan’ supreme state can be achieved and it is the simplest way of finding ‘One Formless Eternal Lord’ hidden inside every human. Dhan Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji has said following:

ਸੰਗਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਸੈ ਬਨੁ ਬਨੁ ਕਹਾ ਫਿਰਾਹਿ ॥**
(God is with you, so why do you wander around from forest to forest?)

ਜੋਗੁ ਬਨਿਆ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਈ ॥੧॥***
(I attain Yoga, singing the Keertan of Your Praises.)

It is evident from ‘His’ words, God is within us and it does not make sense to live in solitude and wander around alone. Also, if ‘Keertan’ is sung with complete inner attuning,  it brings benefit which complete ‘Yoga’ benefits with lots of efforts. So, it is quite obvious ‘Keertan’ is the path of ‘Intuitiveness’ and requires less or should I say no physical efforts. It is like getting rewarded the most with minimum of ‘Physical Labor’. But it does not mean, it does not require efforts. It requires effort to make inertia of stubbornness of ‘The Ego’. And such efforts only come to those on whom ‘He’ showers ‘His Grace’.

‘Keertan’ can be sung anywhere, any moment. But yes surroundings having pure environment may help to focus better and get attached with ‘Keertan’ and ‘Gurshabad’ in efficient way. Thus the greatness and importance of ‘Keertan’ is glorified in ‘Sikhism’ — TO BE CONTINUED
