11. Time(5) – Moments Strength: Under Divine Light and Guidance of Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji

Next, it becomes important to understand where a moment takes an individual? After all ‘Gurbaani’ does confirm mind traverse through different states and it gives the impression of time travel. The emphasis is given on two mental states, low and high. First we will look at ‘Low’ since ‘The Aim’ of ‘Gurbaani’ is to take seekers pinnacle. But pinnacle can only be understood if we know about ‘nadir’. If an individual is not aware of pits and remains stuck there, wrongly comprehending the local peak as pinnacle, how will be put efforts to achieve ‘The Ultimate Peaks’.
Dhan Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji says following:

(Forgetting the Beloved, even for a moment, the mind is afflicted with terrible diseases.)

A ‘moment’ can push an individual to become victim of terrible diseases. He points at mind becoming sick that is if an individual don’t contemplate even for a moment on Lord’s Name, his mind becomes home of evil.

Dhan Shri Guru Amar Das JiDhan Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Dhan Shri Guru Raam Das Ji say following:

(Bound by Maya, the mind is not stable. Each and every moment, it suffers in pain.)

(For a moment of sexual pleasure, you shall suffer in pain for millions of days.)

(Within, they are engrossed in emotional attachment; each and every moment, Maya clings to them.)

‘Maya’, worldly pleasures and worldly affairs (not topic of this discussion) delude the mind; clinging to them ever for a moment results in pain.

Dhan Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji further says following:

(One moment, he practices Yoga and intense meditation, and all sorts of worship; the nextmoment, he wanders in doubt.)

Moments can make an individual to wander in doubts. He may practice anything but again ‘moments’ have the ability to delude the mind. Dhan Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji says following:

(They attach their consciousness to the foul-smelling pile of filth, which comes for amoment, and departs in an instant.)

A moment can give rise to ‘filth’. Like the worldly filth this filth smells foul. Some mortals can identify ‘worldly foul smelling filth’ since they live with practice of keeping their body, the physical, aspect clean. But the smell of filth in spiritual journey can only be smelled by those whose minds are cleared from worldly pleasures and desires. Thus, Guruji can talk about it and mortals like us wonders, what and where is foul smell?

A moment can be perceived as small, but it can throw an individual to ‘abyss’ forever as per ‘Gurbaani’. The abyss can ruin his purpose, his quest, his journey, his virtues and his ‘human birth’. Such individual suffers every moment. And in pain each second seems like eons. A pain, as a result of separation from ‘The One’ and if the reason is realized, will be eased sooner or later by HIM. But an individual gripped in Maya or other pleasures is bound to suffer forever. That is power of moment to ‘decimate’ the human mind, meta-physical. So every moment has to be respected. It has to be spent in such a way that any individual is not ruined by it but it builds him. What needs to be done for same and what happens? This will be covered next in the light of Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
